  32.        This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
  33.        Netscape FastTrack Server.

  35.        If you are installing this software for the first time, the
  36.        default subsystems are installed if you click the _I_n_s_t_a_l_l
  37.        _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button.  To install a different set of
  38.        subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
  39.        your new selections.  Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
  40.        the installation.

  79.        2.3  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d

  81.        All of the subsystems for the Netscape FastTrack Server can
  82.        be installed using IRIX.  You do not need to use the
  83.        miniroot. In order for the server to automatically configure
  84.        itself you must reboot your system after installation.
  85.        Refer to the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e for
  86.        complete installation instructions.

  88.        Important: If you are upgrading from any previous
  89.                   installation of Netscape web servers see the
  90.                   section below about "Upgrade Installation
  91.                   Information" for important information about how
  92.                   to upgrade your security key.

  94.        2.4  _S_p_e_c_i_f_i_c__t_o__t_h_i_s__r_e_l_e_a_s_e

  96.        The Netscape FastTrack Server 3.03 comes with its own
  97.        Administration Server. This is running on port 8182. You may
  98.        start the Administration Server by running the following
  99.        command as the root user:

  104.        2.5  _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s

  106.        There are several configuration files in this product.  The
  107.        first is /_e_t_c/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_n_s_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k which is controlled by
  108.        the state of the _c_h_k_c_o_n_f_i_g command.  The value is either on
  109.        or off telling whether the FastTrack Server should be
  110.        started automatically on system reboot or not started and
  111.        thus started manually.

  113.        The next file is /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d/_n_s_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k which starts and
  114.        stops the FastTrack Server.  It can be invoked manually or
  115.        automatically when the system is rebooted.  You shouldn't
  116.        need to edit this file.

  118.        The next file is the administration server's password file.
  119.        This is located in /_v_a_r/_n_e_t_s_c_a_p_e/_f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k/_a_d_m_s_e_r_v/_a_d_m_p_w and
  120.        currently ships with _a_d_m_i_n as the administration password.
  121.        Notice the password is stored in an encrypted form.  Once
  122.        you begin administering your system you should configure a

  141.        Most of the other configurable parameters can be changed via
  142.        the Administration Server which is accessable on port 8182

  147.        All configuration files for the Administration Server, in
  148.        /var/netscape/fasttrack/admin-serv/config, and for the
  149.        FastTrack Server, in /var/netscape/fasttrack/httpd-
  150.        <hostname>/config, are marked as such in the installation
  151.        image. This means that a new installation on top of an older
  152.        one will not overwrite the configuration files unless they
  153.        have not been modified by you. If a configuration file has
  154.        been modified since its initial installation, the new
  155.        configuration file will have a suffix of ._N appended to its
  156.        name and you need to manually merge the changes.

  158.        2.6  _F_i_l_e_s__N_o_t__L_i_s_t_e_d__b_y__vvvv_eeee_rrrr_ssss_iiii_oooo_nnnn_ssss

  160.        This version of the Netscape FastTrack Server creates files
  161.        and directories not listed by _vvvv_eeee_rrrr_ssss_iiii_oooo_nnnn_ssss. They mimic the _i_n_s_t
  162.        config files in their behavior. When the new version is
  163.        installed, it checks if there is already an instance
  164.        installed and will leave the old instance directory httpd-
  165.        <hostname> as is.
  166.  
  167.        If you have changed the configurations of your servers
  168.        through the Administration Server in the 'Server Settings'
  169.        form, you do not have to make those same changes in the
  170.        servers newly installed. To get the latest set of
  171.        configuration files however, you must create a new server
  172.        instance from the Administration Server form and manually
  173.        migrate your changes.

  176.        turned on access control for your server:

  185.        server. If you have turned on access control previously for
  186.        a server of the same name, then you should not simply copy
  187.        the '.N' files over your old ones. You will need to look at
  188.        the respective files and edit according to your needs.

  204.        2.7  _G_e_n_e_r_a_l__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  206.        This version of the Netscape FastTrack Server comes pre-
  207.        installed and pre-configured. The Netscape FastTrack Server
  208.        configures itself for running on port 80 with a document
  209.        root of /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_h_t_d_o_c_s.
  210.  
  211.        Important: This version installs its files in
  212.                   /_v_a_r/_n_e_t_s_c_a_p_e/_f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k so if you are upgrading
  213.                   from a previous installation that installed the
  214.                   FastTrack Server in a different location see the
  215.                   section below about "Upgrade Installation
  216.                   Information".

  218.        In the forms used to administer the Netscape server, there
  219.        are two user accounts that are mentioned.  One is a Unix
  220.        user account and must appear in the /_e_t_c/_p_a_s_s_w_d file while
  221.        the other is a Netscape Administration  user and does not
  222.        exist in the /etc/passwd file, but in the
  223.        /_v_a_r/_n_e_t_s_c_a_p_e/_f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k/_a_d_m_i_n-_s_e_r_v/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_d_m_p_w file. The
  224.        Unix user account is the one used to run the FastTrack
  225.        Server process and has a default of "nobody".  If you use
  226.        the "nobody" user make sure that the value of the user id
  227.        and group id is 60001 and not a negative number.
  228.  
  229.        Customization of the Netscape FastTrack Server images
  230.        requires the use of the Netscape Navigator or Communicator
  231.        as a graphical front end for the configuration process.  If
  232.        you are installing these images on a Origin 200 or other SGI
  233.        server system you are required to have an X terminal or
  234.        workstation with an X windows display capability accessible
  235.        from the server.

  242.        2.8  _U_p_g_r_a_d_e__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  244.        If you are installing the FastTrack Server as an upgrade to
  245.        the Netscape Communications Server 1.12 or the Netscape
  246.        FastTrack Server 2.x then you may need to reconfigure the
  247.        newly installed server before shutting down your old server,
  248.        if you modified any server configurations beyond the default
  249.        settings. The Administration Server front page will have a
  250.        migration utility for the Netscape FastTrack Server 2.x.

  270.        2.9  _U_p_g_r_a_d_i_n_g__f_r_o_m__F_a_s_t_T_r_a_c_k__S_e_r_v_e_r__2_._x

  272.        If you are upgrading from a standard Netscape FastTrack
  273.        Server 2.x and you used the default server root of /_u_s_r/_n_s-
  274.        _h_o_m_e then your new server will nnnnooootttt replace the old server
  275.        binaries nor the configuration files. You can try to use the
  276.        mmmmiiiiggggrrrraaaatttteeee sssseeeerrrrvvvveeeerrrr function from the newer Administration Server
  277.        but we recommend you to migrate manually.

  279.        2.10  _U_p_g_r_a_d_i_n_g__f_r_o_m__N_e_t_s_c_a_p_e__C_o_m_m_u_n_i_c_a_t_i_o_n_s__S_e_r_v_e_r__1_._1_2

  281.        If you are upgrading from the Netscape Communications 1.12
  282.        Server and you used the default server root of /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e
  283.        then you may still have to reconfigure the new server to
  284.        restore any functionality beyond the default configuration.
  285.        Your new server will replace the old server binaries but all
  286.        your configuration files will remain intact.  After making
  287.        sure the new server behaves properly, you will have to
  288.        remove the old files by hand.

  290.        2.11  _U_p_g_r_a_d_i_n_g__f_r_o_m__N_e_t_s_c_a_p_e__C_o_m_m_u_n_i_c_a_t_i_o_n_s__S_e_r_v_e_r__1_._0

  292.        If you are upgrading from any version of the Netscape
  293.        Communications 1.0 Server you may still have to reconfigure
  294.        the new server to restore full functionality.  After making
  295.        sure the new server behaves properly, you will have to
  296.        remove the old files by hand, the server root for this
  297.        server was /_v_a_r/_m_c-_h_t_t_p_d.

  299.        2.12  _U_p_g_r_a_d_e__P_r_o_c_e_d_u_r_e

  301.        Prior to upgrading your Netscape FastTrack Server you should
  302.        stop the currently running server. If you have a 1.0 server
  303.        do the following:

  339.        2.13  _N_e_t_s_c_a_p_e _F_a_s_t_T_r_a_c_k _S_e_r_v_e_r _a_n_d _O_t_h_e_r _I_R_I_X _W_e_b-_b_a_s_e_d

  342.        This section is relevant only when altering the Netscape
  343.        FastTrack Server configurations from their default settings.
  344.  
  345.        The Netscape FastTrack Server comes pre-configured to work
  346.        with the MindShare OutBox, WebDist, WebSetup InfoSearch,
  347.        DynaWeb, Intranet Junction, and other future web-based
  348.        products that SGI will ship.  No special configuration is
  349.        necessary, they share the same document root and cgi-bin
  350.        directory.  You should not change these locations if you
  351.        want OutBox to work with your Netscape FastTrack server.
  352.  
  353.        At a minimum the following configuration should be
  354.        maintained:
  355.  
  356.           +o Your document root must be /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_h_t_d_o_c_s
  357.  
  358.           +o _c_g_i-_b_i_n must be mapped to /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_c_g_i-_b_i_n and enabled
  359.  
  360.           +o Public html must be mapped to ppppuuuubbbblllliiiicccc____hhhhttttmmmmllll and enabled
  361.  
  362.           +o Server parsed HTML must be enabled and parse all .shtml
  363.             files
  364.  
  365.        Future web-based products SGI ships will depend on a web
  366.        server being able to access files within the document root
  367.        and CGI directory specified above.
  368.  
  369.        By default /_v_a_r/_w_w_w/_h_t_d_o_c_s is writable by all users. If this
  370.        is not what you want change the permissions appropriately.
  371.  
  372.        2.14  _F_i_n_a_l__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n

  374.        After you have installed and configured your new Netscape
  375.        FastTrack Server and you have tested to make sure it is
  376.        fully functional, you should configure your system so that
  377.        it will automatically be restarted if your server ever needs
  378.        to be rebooted.  To allow the Netscape server to
  379.        automatically restart on reboot do the following:
  380.

  383.        This Netscape FastTrack server includes an Administration
  384.        Server that is not shared with other Netscape servers when
  385.        more than one Netscape server is installed on the same
  386.        machine.  This Administration Server must be running in

  402.        order to administer your Netscape FastTrack server.  You
  403.        will have to start the Administration Server by hand in
  404.        order to administer your server.  To start the server by
  405.        hand execute the following command:

  412.        The OutBox webserver uses port 80, which is the default for
  413.        the HTTP protocol.  This prevents Netscape FastTrack Server
  414.        from binding to this port during installation. To install a
  415.        Netscape FastTrack Server on a machine running OutBox
  416.        webserver, after installation do the following:
  417.

  421.        Then you may customize your Netscape server as discussed in
  422.        the previous section.  After you reboot your machine the
  423.        OutBox webserver will be automatically turned off and the
  424.        Netscape Server will take control.

  426.        2.16  _A_u_t_o_-_c_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__o_f__F_a_s_t_T_r_a_c_k__S_e_r_v_e_r_s

  428.        If any key system information has changed, the FastTrack
  429.        Servers will be auto-configured each time the
  430.        /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d/_n_s_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k _s_t_a_r_t script is run and
  431.        _n_s_s__f_a_s_t_t_r_a_c_k is chkconfiged "on".  This information is the
  432.        host name, IP address, and domain. These changes are made to
  433.        the configuration files in each server instance. The command
  434.        to do this is

  437.        system parameters change, this script must be run by hand
  438.        and all FastTrack Servers must then be restarted by hand.

  441.        release of the FastTrack Server will also reconfigure itself
  442.        if nss_fasttrack is _c_h_k_c_o_n_f_i_g'ed on, or you will have to
  443.        manually run its own script at:
